Jena cases

Berhampur: Police registered two new cases against former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena at Patapur and Nimakhandi on Friday. "We registered an extortion case at Patapur and a land-grabbing case at Nimakhandi," said police superintendent Ashis Singh. The police have also registered cases against Jena's three associates, including Shatrughna Jena, Santosh Sahu and Santosh Rath, Singh said.

Three drown

Sambalpur: Three persons drowned in three separate incidents here on Thursday. Shyam Sunder Naik, 28, of Badbazar within Khetrajpur police limits drowned while taking a bath at Sason canal after playing Holi. Naik was working as a cameraman at a private television channel. The two others were identified as Saroj Panigrahi, 34, of Modipara and Sagar Das, 23, of Badbazar. Authorities have fished out bodies of all the victims.

One held

Balasore: Basta police on Friday arrested a 23-year-old man accused of murder. The accused, Buddhiram Singh of Padmanathpur, had allegedly killed Dinabandhu Hansda, 30, of Haldipada, in February, according to police.

Woman stabbed

Rourkela: A 35-year-old woman was stabbed by another woman here on Friday. According to sources, Shanti Singh stabbed Laxmi Tarai twice with a  vegetable knife over a personal feud. Laxmi, who was seriously injured, was admitted to Ispat General Hospital and is stated to be in a critical condition.
