Murder cuffs
Cuttack: Police on Friday arrested six persons for the murder of Haramani Patra here. The cops said Mangal Jyoti Sahoo alias Bunu, 30, abducted Patra, 32, and clubbed him to death, allegedly for having an affair with his wife. They later dumped the body at a stone quarry in Choudwar. Patra earlier worked as a driver at Mangal’s residence.

Bhubaneswar: Police on Friday served notice to Pankaj Mahakud, the son of Champua’s Independent legislator Sanatan Mahakud to appear before them. The decision came after one Kavita Mahakud had approached the Mahila Police here, claiming to be the MLA’s daughter-in-law. Kavita has alleged harassment by the legislator over her marriage with Pankaj. The cops said Pankaj would appear before them to record his statement over the claims made by Kavita.

Bhubaneswar: The government on Friday appointed R. Vineel Krishna, a 2005-batch IAS officer, as the chief executive officer of the special purpose vehicle that was formed to develop Bhubaneswar as a smart city.

Baripada: Police on Friday arrested a man, 32, and produced him in court for killing his father.
Guilty verdict
Paradip: A local court on Friday convicted two Calcutta-based iron ore exporters and sentenced them to 18-month simple imprisonment. The duo were found guilty of unlawful export of iron ore from Paradip port. Judicial Magistrate First Class, Paradip, Digbijoy Das held the accused, Sanjay Patawari and Sajan Pattwari, guilty of unauthorised stockpiling.
