Cops face action
Bhubaneswar: Police on Sunday suspended six officers, including assistant sub-inspector of Khandagiri police station Gourahari Mallick, for negligence leading to the escape of criminal Shajan alias Patu from the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Patu was admitted at SCB after being injured in police firing during an encounter at Ghatikia in Bhubaneswar. However, he managed to escape while being taken to the orthopaedic ward.
One murdered
Cuttack: A woman was killed by her relatives in a dispute over land at Kamara Sahi in Balikuda area on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Rina Sahoo. Sadar police reached the spot and sent her body to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for autopsy.
Jumbo kills one
Baripada: A 62-year-old man was trampled to death by an elephant in Thakurmunda on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Rajkishor Bansalia. Local residents alleged inaction of forest officials for his death.
Godown raided
Sambalpur: Officials of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation, led by deputy commissioner Sudhansu Bhoi, raided a godown at Khetrajpur and seized 61 bags of polythene carry bags, weighing around 1,800kgs on Saturday. Regional Office of State Pollution Control Board and forest department officials were also present.
