Minor rescued

Bhubaneswar: Police on Friday rescued a minor girl from Keonjhar and have detained a couple in connection with the case. The girl was abducted on February 8 from Bargarh. “We rescued the girl from a rented house in Keonjhar. We have also arrested the couple who had abducted the girl,” said director general of police Satyabrata Bhoi. 

Liquor shops

Cuttack: A group of women on Friday ransacked two country-liquor shops at Kathajodi Vihar slum in Markatnagar police limits that were running illegally. The women ransacked the units after the men operating the joints assaulted a few youths on Thursday night.

Surrender 

Bhubaneswar: Five Maoists of Balimela on the Andhra-Odisha border surrendered before Malkangiri police on Friday. The rebels were involved in several cases, including murder. This is the first case of rebel surrender this year, said Malkangiri superintendent of police Mitrabhanu Mahapatra.

Judicial court

Bhubaneswar: The government will set up a judicial court at Jatni by March. The authorities have also decided to set up a temporary court at the Revenue Dak Bunglow. Khurda District Session Judge Prakash Chandra Mohapatra visited the bungalow today.   

Murder case

Bhubaneswar: Jhasketan Rout, a suspect in a twin-murder case, has reportedly confessed his crime. Police on Friday arrested him from Kusakila village in Jarapada police limits in Angul. He had gone missing since February 4. He has also confessed to killing two more persons.

Man trampled

Bhubaneswar: A herd of elephants killed a man by trampling him on Friday in Bisra forest.Kumar Baret, 28, a resident of Chhattisgarh, was working in a brick kiln at Bhaludunguri, around 10kms from here.
