Liquor vigil

Sambalpur: Burla police have intensified vigil and started checking vehicles of picnickers going towards the right dyke of Hirakud dam to curb liquor consumption at the picnic spot. A sub-inspector, two assistant sub-inspectors and a section of police force have been engaged to conduct the check.

Two killed

Kendrapara: Two persons were killed and as many injured on Monday in separate road accidents in Kendrapara and Paradip. A cyclist was run over by a speeding car at Paradipgada traffic junction on the Paradip-Daitary expressway. In another mishap, a motorcyclist died at Badapalagada junction on the highway after an unknown vehicle hit him from the behind. 

CBI probe

Sambalpur: A CBI team on Monday arrived in Sambalpur to probe the multi-crore scam pertaining to Hyderabad-based Vettel company. According to reports, the company had its branch offices in four places of west Odisha - Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sundergarh and Jharsuguda.

Opium cuffs

Sambalpur: Two persons were arrested and 820 grams of opium seized from their possession in Sambalpur district, police said on Monday. Acting on a tip off, police carried out an operation and arrested Md Samsuddin, 35, of Motijharan and Sankar Sony, 48, of Malipara.

Train services

Bhubaneswar: Train services from and through East Coast Railway (ECoR) have been affected for two reasons - first, in view of dense fog in northern parts of the country and second, the cyclone impact in Tamil Nadu. As a result, a few trains towards Delhi and Chennai from and towards ECoR have been cancelled and rescheduled. Dense fog in northern India, especially in the Delhi region is affecting punctuality of train services.

Farmer leaders

Bhubaneswar: Two top leaders of Navnirman Krushak Sangathan, a farmers’ association, were held on Monday. The two farmer leaders - Akshay Kumar and Seshadev Nanda - were held by the twin city police ahead of an event by the association.  

Poachers held

Khurda: Two bird poachers were nabbed by wildlife officials near Kankanakuda on the Chilika coast in Khurda district on Monday. Carcasses of three migratory birds were seized from their possession.
