Lawyers protest
Bhubaneswar: Lawyers from west Odisha gathered at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Monday to demand a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in west Odisha. Around 300 lawyers of 37 bar associations from that part of the state took part in the agitation organised by the Central Action Committee. They also invited leaders from different political parties, who have been supporting the demand, to address the day-long dharna.
Suicide
Berhampur: A newly-wed woman killed hanged herself on Sunday within Golanthara police limits in Ganjam district allegedly because the groom’s family refused to accept a dowry of Rs 1,70,000 in scrapped notes. Her father had requested time to exchange the notes but failed to do so. According to reports, Prabhati, 20, got married on November 9. The police have begun a probe into the incident.
Sum fire
Bhubaneswar: Police quizzed Saswati Das and Arati Nayak, trustees of the Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Charitable Trust in connection with the fire at Sum hospital on October 17. Khandagiri police went to the office of the trust that runs the hospital and grilled them on Sunday night. The duo, however, have denied links with the mishap.
