Bike lifters

Bhadrak: Police produced four motorcycle lifters in a local court on Friday. The accused persons have been identified as Niranjan Jena, 22, Kuna Malik, 34, Rajendra Jena, 32 and Trilocha Rout, 23.

Achievement

Bhubaneswar: Fourteen-year-old Shubhendu Kumar Sahu, a student of Class VIII of Somapur Project Upper Primary School in Ganjam district’s Hinjili, will be conferred the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement in New Delhi on November 14. President Pranab Mukherjee will give away the award.

Burglary bid

Bhubaneswar: Goons tried to break into a nationalised bank at Tankapani Road on Thursday night. However, their burglary bid was foiled after an alarm got activated. Cops have obtained CCTV footages from the bank.

Kerosene 

Bhubaneswar: Implementation of direct benefit transfer (DBT) for kerosene subsidy will be undertaken in the state by March 2017, said food supplies secretary Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra on Friday.

Rape charge

Cuttack: Badambadi police on Friday detained the owner of a placement agency for allegedly raping a 32-year-old tribal woman from Mayurbhanj district. The accused, identified as 30-year-old  Biswajit Pradhan, has been detained based on a complaint lodged by the woman that said he had raped her at a chamber inside the Sai Placement Centre at Link Road.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Biswabhusan Das on Friday submitted his reply to the showcause notice issued to him by the Congress disciplinary committee against student Congress leaders for misbehaviour against B.K. Hariprasad, the party’s Odisha in-charge .

Vedanta case

Bhubaneswar: Finance minister Pradip Amat on Friday said the state government would get Rs 1,500 crore as tax in the Vedanta entry tax case. He said the Supreme Court had ruled in favour of the state government in the case.

Ticket advice

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Railways has advised all daily commuters to purchase season tickets. Apart from this, it has offered accidental insurance of Rs 4 lakh to the season ticket holders.

Conclave talks

Bhubaneswar: Development commissioner R. Balakishnan facilitated a dialogue among the senior officials of 10 departments of the state government and the civil society organisations on the findings of Odisha Development Conclave, held from September 19 to 21. Balakishnan committed to use the inputs of the conclave in preparation of the Odisha State Vision Document, 2036, as well as in finetuning the programme and budget framework of the state through intensive consultative process.

JE toll 103

Malkangiri: One more child died of Japanese Encephalitis in Malkangiri district on Friday. With this, the death toll due to the disease has gone up to 103. The deceased child was identified as Mahendra Madhi, a resident of Daniguda village, in the district.

Cuttack:  Upset over the slipshod attitude of the state government in addressing their long-standing demands, the Odisha State Heads of Department Section Officers' Association has decided to hit the streets on November 16.

Criminal held

Cuttack:  Police arrested Seikh Sikandar, a criminal, late on Thursday night. Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted raids and nabbed Sikandar, sources said.

Khurda: Vigilance sleuths on Friday raided 5 places, including the houses of Khurda forest department's ACF Sudhanshu Sekhar Sahoo, on charges of amassing disproportionate assets.
