1 killed in accident

Angul: A person died after being hit by a goods vehicle at Phuljhari in Chhendipada police station limits here on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Gurubari Nayak of Phuljhari village. Following the accident, local residents staged a road block demanding compensation for his family members, disrupting vehicular movement on the Bagadia-Angul road for nearly four hours.

Shot at

Keonjhar: Unidentified goons fired at three persons and later escaped with two motorcycles on Duburi-Naranpur road here on Friday night. 

Seven held

Sambalpur: Police arrested seven persons and forwarded them to court for gambling on Saturday. The accused were arrested from two gambling dens in Daldalipara and Pardeshipara within Khetrajpur police station in the city. The cops have also seized around Rs 4,000.

Strike call

Bhubaneswar: The CPI (Maoist) has called for a strike in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra on November 3 to protest against the encounter in the state's Malkangiri district, where security forces killed several Maoists. It has also alleged that the central government, along with the governments of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, favoured bauxite mining in the tribal area against the will of local residents. 

Zebra dies

Bhubaneswar: A two-year-old female zebra died at Nandankanan zoo on Saturday. According to zoo officials, the exact reason of death can be ascertained after a post-mortem.
