Train probe
Cuttack: The Commission of Railway Safety on Monday began a probe to ascertain the exact reason behind the train mishap at Kathajodi passenger halt in which two persons died and over 30 were injured on September 29. The commission has come up with terms of reference to ascertain whether rear-end collision between the goods train and Bhubaneswar-Bhadrak DMU was caused by technical or human error or a combination of both. The commission will take into account several aspects, including the speed of the Bhubaneswar-Bhadrak DMU, the halt time of the goods train at the Kathajodi station, the arrival and departure of both the trains between Cuttack and Baranga.

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated a first-of-its-kind fish landing centre at Markandi, a coastal hamlet under Chikiti block in Ganjam district to promote hygienic handling of fish on Monday. Naveen said 27 such centres will be opened across the state subsequently to benefit fishermen and increase fish production.
Royal probe
Cuttack: The crime branch has intensified its probe into the suicides of the former Parakhemundi palace manager Anang Manjari and her three siblings by interrogating two persons here on Monday. The sleuths grilled Parlakhemundi councillor Bibhuti Nayak and Congress leader Sudhir Ranjan Mohapatra in connection with the incident. Earlier, the crime branch had summoned Parlakhemundi’s Congress legislator K. Surya Rao and eight others to appear in person for further probe into the case.
Cash loot
Baripada: Two unidentified robbers on Monday looted Rs 4 lakh cash from the staff of Mayurbhanj Co-operative Bank, escaping on a motorcycle. The bank staff were returning with the cash after drawing the amount from the local SBI branch when the incident occurred.
Gamblers held
Sambalpur: Police arrested nine persons in connection with gambling here on Monday. The accused were arrested from a gambling den near the railway station within Dhanupali police limits. The cops also seized Rs 17,340 cash from the spot.
