Servitor nabbed

Bhubaneswar: Police on Sunday arrested 12 persons, including a senior daitapati (servitor) of Jagannath Temple during a raid on a gambling den near the Gundicha Temple. A team led by Kumbharpada police station inspector in-charge Krushna Chandra Sethi seized Rs 1.69 lakh, seven mobile phones and eight bikes.

Ganja seized

Balasore: The excise department arrested three  persons and seized 37kg of ganja near the bus stand area. 

Maoists killed

Bhubaneswar: Security personnel on Sunday killed two Maoists on the Angul-Deogarh border. The deceased have been identified as Susil and his wife Sony of Kalinganagar Maoist division. Susil was the secretary of the division, police sources said. Police DG K.B. Singh said Susil was named in around 78 cases, including 13 murder cases. He had a reward of Rs 20 lakh on his head and while Sony had a Rs 5 lakh reward. Security has intensified combing operations in the area in search of more rebels.

Rose Valley boss

Bhubaneswar: The CBI on Sunday brought Goutam Kundu, chief of the deposit collection company Rose Valley to Bhubaneswar from Calcutta for further interrogation in the multi-crore money laundering scam. Kundu will be produced in a special CBI court on Monday. The Enforcement Directorate had arrested Kundu in March 2015. The company allegedly duped people of a Rs 17,000 crore across the country.

Cold wave

Bhubaneswar: The Met office on Sunday has predicted a continuation of the cold wave prevalent across the state for the next two days. Met centre director Sarat Sahu said that the temperature might fall by a further one to two degrees at many places.

House burgled

Berhampur: Former vice-chancellor of Berhampur University Harihar Das on Sunday lodged an FIR with Town Police Station alleging that thieves had stolen Rs 1.20 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 80,000 from his house. The incident took place when Das and his wife went on a morning walk.
