Bhubaneswar: The election to the post of Cuttack mayor will be held on January 22. The post has fallen vacant after the resignation of Anita Behera over the ration card issue.
Body found
Bhubaneswar: The body of a 22-year-old engineering student was found on Monday from his rented accommodation at Kanan Vihar. The body of Rahul Sharma, a fourth-year college student, was found hanging from the ceiling fan. Police suspected that Sharma might have committed suicide.
Sarathi case
Cuttack: The sub-divisional judicial magistrate court on Monday ordered the self-proclaimed spiritual leader, Santosh Raula alias Sarathi, to appear before it on January 21 as other accused failed to appear before it.
Agitation
Sambalpur: Hundreds of women of Jayantpur gram panchayat, who had come to the office of the district collector to submit a memorandum demanding closure of the country liquor manufacturing unit at Kendghati in the panchayat, were taken into preventive custody after they had tried to force their way into the office. Senior BJP leader Suresh Pujari, who was supporting the women’s agitation, was also taken into preventive custody.
FIR lodged
Paradip: Police on Monday registered a case against a teacher in Alaka college at Anakhia village of Jagatsinghpur for allegedly misbehaving with a 17-year-old female student. The student lodged an FIR on Sunday.
