Nine kids rescued
Berhampur: Berhampur: Gajapati police have rescued nine children who were being taken to Tamil Nadu to work as labourers. The police have also arrested two touts, Nibaru Mandal, 60, and S. Ramana for trying to smuggle the children, who were part of a group of 24, as labourers. The touts were taking the labourers to work at a farm in Thiruvellu district of Tamil Nadu by promising them lucrative salaries.
Budget session
Bhubaneswar: The Assembly secretariat on Tuesday submitted a proposal for the commencement of the budget session from February 9. The session will continue till April 8 and will have 31 workdays in two phases.
Vedanta term
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Pollution Control Board has extended the consent for expansion of Vedanta alumina refinery project for another five years, The board has extended the consent period till February 15, 2020, for the 6 million tonne per annum refinery project.
Compensation
Bhubaneswar: Accredited social health activists will be provided a compensation of Rs 1 lakh in case of death while on duty and up to Rs 50,000 in case of permanent disability.
