Pat for athlete
Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik felicitated athlete Jauna Murmu for her success in the recently concluded National Open Athletics Championship in Calcutta. The chief minister congratulated her and wished her well for her future endeavours in the hope that she brings more laurels for the state. Murmu won one gold and one silver at the championship.
Two killed
Khurda: Two persons were killed and more than 20 injured when the bus in which they were travelling overturned
on Baghmari-Simara Road in the district on Monday. The injured have been admitted to the Khurda Hospital. The bus was going from Bhubaneswar to Khandpada.
Murder
Baripada: A 60-year-old woman, who was accused off witchcraft, was killed by her nephew on Monday. The accused, Repa Bakira, fled the village in the Badampahad area after murdering Randia Bakira.
Hirakud
Sambalpur: Water of the Mahanadi river was released through 15 sluice gates from Hirakud dam on Monday. Heavy rainfall in the downstream in the last 24 hours (18.25 mm) forced the dam authorities to release excess water.
12-feet snake
Baripada: A 12-feet-long king cobra that was rescued by snake rescuer Abhishek Acharya was released in the forest on Monday. The cobra was found in a house in Baldhia.
Accident
Sambalpur: A 22-year-old youth from Simdega in Jharkhand got his right leg severed after he reportedly fell from the Puri-Hatia Tapaswini Express at Sambalpur Road railway station in the in the early hours on Monday. The victim has been identified as Suraj Singh. He is being treated at VSS hospital in Burla.
Sex racket
Bhubaneswar: Police busted a sex racket running from a rented house in a residential area under Laxmisagr police station limits on Monday and arrested four pimps and one customer. The cops have also rescued three women and seized a car.
