Satyam case
Cuttack: Police arrested three persons for allegedly helping Satyam Sekhar, the adopted son of the self-proclaimed spiritual leader Sarathi baba. Satyam had allegedly paid Rs 20 lakh to them, identified as Pilaski Swain, Biswajit Patnaik and Harish Chandra Das. An amount of Rs 16.95 lakh was recovered from them, said additional director-general of police (crime branch) B.K. Sharma. They had arranged a train ticket for Satyam for Hyderabad on August 11.
Murder arrest
Baripada: Mayurbhanj police arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a 50-year-old woman. The accused have been identified as Siddha Hembram, 47, and his brother, Dubae, 43, of Dahatola in Badakhamana in the Udla police station limits.
Hemp cuffs
Boudh: Police arrested one person, identified as Hemant Mahakula, with 88kg hemp at Budibalanga village within the Kantamala police limits.
Fraud cuffs
Cuttack: Mangalabag police busted a racket and arrested three persons, including the sales manager, of a bank in connection with a fraud to the tune of Rs 50 lakh. Deputy commissioner of police Sanjeev Arora said the group was involved in the bank fraud and had caused loss to the actual beneficiaries under the PM’s Employment Generation Scheme.
Privatisation
Berhampur: The privatisation of city bus service has been deferred by amonth as the state government is yet to approve the proposal. The Ganjam Urban Transport Services Limited, which is facilitating the city bus service had decided to hand over the service operator charge from the state transport corporation to a private party.
Sawmill raids
Balasore: Smuggled timbers and machineries worth Rs 7 lakh were seized, following raids by vigilance sleuths on Monday. The raid was conducted on two sawmills near Remuna Circle.
