Power cut
Rourkela: A breakdown in the Koelnagar transformer resulted in widespread power cut that triggered public ire last night. The residents gathered outside the substation at 10pm on Sunday and started demonstrating. Even the contractor who had been called in to inspect the work was almost roughed up.
Bribe cuffs
Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested the executive officer of Dudhianali panchayat under Tilebani block in Deogarh district, Jagabandhu Pradhan, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 2,000 from one Dwitikrushna Nayak of Mundogohiga village in Reamal police limits for setting up a house.
Lightning strike
Sambalpur: A woman was killed and another injured after being struck by lightning in Lad village under Kuchinda police limits on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Sasmita Naik, 19, and the injured, Tilottama Naik, 45. They were working in a farm when the accident occurred.
Youth fund
Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the Youth Innovation Fund Scheme of micro small medium enterprises department on Tuesday. The fund is aimed at nurturing new business ideas among young entrepreneurs.
