Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested Niranjan Tripathy, an accused in the amin and revenue inspector recruitment scam in Balangir. The then collector, Debraj Mishra, who had earlier been arrested in connection with the case, is now out on bail. It was alleged that the Mishra and Tripathy were involved in irregularities in the appointment of 120 inspectors and amins during 2012-13.

Flood review

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday reviewed the flood situations in Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts through videoconferencing. He directed the officials of the respective district administrations to ensure proper relief work for the people and repair and restoration work in the affected areas on a
war-footing.

Job target

Bhubaneswar: The state government on Monday decided to create additional employment for three lakh people and attract new investments in the industrial sector to the tune of Rs 1.73 lakh crore by 2019-20. It has also targeted to increase the manufacturing sector growth by 60 per cent. These targets were set at the annual review meeting of industries department by chief minister Naveen Patnaik.

Admissions

Bhubaneswar: The process for online and offline admission in the Plus Three arts, science and commerce streams began on Monday. According to the higher education department’s notification, students, who want online admission, will have to log on to the department’s website www.dheodisha.gov.in and fill up the forms online.

Sex racket

Bhubaneswar: Saheed Nagar police on Monday busted a sex racket operating in a slum beside the National Highway 5 and arrested four customers along with three women who were acting as pimps. The cops also rescued four girls, who were forced into flesh trade.
