Rights member resigns

Bhubaneswar: Former chief secretary Bijoy Kumar Patnaik, who was serving as the member of the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has resigned from the post. He has sent in his resignation to Governor S.C. Jamir. Sources said he had cited personal reasons for his resignation. Earlier, he had worked as chairman of the Odisha State Staff Selection Commission and took charge as OHRC member in July 2014.

CHSE violators

Bhubaneswar: The Council of Higher Secondary Education has decided to take stern action against the private colleges, which violate their guidelines. A study revealed that 317 private and residential colleges were running without the necessary infrastructure. “We will submit a report to the higher education department recommending strong action against such institutions,” said council chairman Basudev Chhatoi.

Plea for IIM

Sambalpur: A nine-member team of the People’s Forum for IIM in the city left for Delhi on Saturday to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union HRD minister Smriti Irani to discuss the establishment of the premier institute in the city.

Two drowned

Kendrapara: Two college students drowned in the Mahanadi river while taking bath near a ghat in Kissanagar police station limits.
