Postal strike
Bhubaneswar: Employees of the department of posts in Odisha would join the nationwide strike from May 6 in protest against the privatisation and corporatisation of the department. Two frontal organisations - National Federation of Postal Employees and Federation of National Postal Organisations - have called for an indefinite strike from first week of next month. Their demands include halt to privatisation of the postal departments, regularisation of the rural postal messengers and providing them with the benefits of pay commission recommendations.
Rape case
Berhampur: Police are searching a Motabadi villager in the Buguda police station limits for allegedly raping a 15-year-old physically-challenged girl. The incident took place on Monday night when the girl was alone in the house. The victim's father later lodged a complaint at Buguda police station.
One dies
Balasore: A 21-year-old man died after getting trapped under sand bank in the Subarnarekha riverbed at Raibania on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Milan Som of Kuanarpur village.
Goof-up notice
Bhubaneswar: The additional tehsildar of Ranapur in Nayagarh was suspended on Tuesday for discrepancies in seat reservation for civic body polls for the Ranpur NAC. The district collector had served a showcause notice to additional tehsildar Anil Patnaik after the goof-up.
One detained
Cuttack: Police have detained a person for the murder of a helper whose body was recovered near Malgodown over bridge.
