Auction concern
Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday met the Union power and coal minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi and expressed serious concern over the miniscule benefits derived provided to the state from the ongoing coal blocks auction. Naveen said that out of the nine coal blocks of the state earmarked for auction, only one block has been earmarked for the non-regulated sector. Naveen added that a large number of industries in the state would be put to great disadvantage due to the lack of earmarked coal blocks to meet their captive demands.
Accident
Bhubaneswar: A Cesna trainer aircraft, used for imparting practical flight training to the students of the Government Aviation Training Institute, skidded off the runway while landing on Monday. While the pilot did not receive any injury, the aircraft was damaged and the runway was cleared soon after the accident.
Roadblock
Cuttack: Residents of Sikharpur area staged a roadblock on Monday over the death of Santosh Chakrabarthy, 28, a youth who was allegedly beaten to death by a doctor and medical staff of a private nursing home on February 4. They demanded stringent action against the nursing home staff.
Crocodile
Kendrapara: Bhitarkanika National Park officials retrieved the body of a 12-foot-long female brackish water crocodile near Timtara creek. The body bore injury marks on the lower abdomen, which indicates human assault.
Odisha Shree
Berhampur: Maheswar Sahu of Bhubaneswar was adjudged Odisha Shree-2015 in the fifth Mr Odisha Best Physique Championship organised in the Khallikote College Stadium here on Sunday. Total 174 bodybuilders from 15 districts took part in the championship.
Police inquiry
Bhubaneswar: Police have begun inquiring the incident in which a minor boy lost his palm at a sugarcane mill in Koraput on Saturday. Sources said Dambaru Jani, a 12-year-old Class V student of Pujariput village in Borigumma police station limits, was working as a daily wage labourer at the sugarcane mill.
Eviction drive
Bhubaneswar: An eviction team evicted 70 households from Banaphul slum on Kalpana Square that belonged to the railways. They will be rehabilitated in Patia.
Illegal assets
Bhubaneswar: The judge of a special court instructed Akhaya Kumar Mohanty, a former executive engineer of Puri municipality to surrender a double-storeyed building in Puri and movable properties worth around Rs 16.05 lakh. Mohanty, along with his wife were booked for possessing disproportionate assets in 2002.
Cash award
Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of the state level agriculture festival, 26 milk producers were awarded for producing more milk in 2014-15. Agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy handed over Rs 15,000 cash prize to the milkmen.
