Farmer suicide

Kendrapara: Unable to cope with debt burden, a farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide. The deceased, Bijoy Parida, was rushed to a hospital where he died on Monday morning.   

Snakebite

Sambalpur: A 30-year-old man died after being bitten by a snake at Banjipali village in Bargarh district on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Krushna Chandra Khadia. The snake bit Krushna Chandra while he had gone to his farmland to collect fodder for cattle.  

Murder cuffs

Baripada: A 45-year-old man accused of murder was arrested on Monday.  The accused, Madhu Singh of Barkupar had beaten to death Kunaram Murmu, 35, of the same village over some previous grudge on Wednesday.  

Crackers

Baripada: Baisinga police seized a huge cache of crackers that were manufactured illegally in the local units, following raids on Monday and arrested two persons. The raids were conducted in the Bachhuripada village.

Acid attack

Berhampur: Seven persons were injured in an acid attack following a clash between two groups during the immersion of Ganesh idol in Beguniapada at Ganjam district on Sunday night. While four were admitted in the Kodala community health centre, three others are undergoing treatment at the MKCG Hospital. All the injured returned from Surat in Gujarat recently. 

Agitation called off

Puri: The employees of Puri municipality called off the eight-day-long strike after a meeting with the local MLA and municipality chairman. As many as 200  employees of the municipality had resorted to cease work since September 27. 

Laddu auction

Berhampur: A laddu weighing 51kg, which was offered to Ganesh at Kasinagar in Gajapati district, was auctioned for Rs 1.46 lakh on Sunday. The 18ft high Ganesh idol cost Rs 95,000. The laddu, which originally cost Rs 8,000, was donated by a devotee.

10 arrested

Rourkela: Bonai police have arrested 10 persons for allegedly stealing pipes from Fukuda irrigation project canal system. The theft took place on September 30.

KV admission

Berhampur: The Kendriya Vidyalaya at Hinjili in Ganjam district will start its admission process this month. It will function from Brundaban Vidyapitha.
