Fraud arrest
Bhubaneswar: A 33-year-old man from Haryana was arrested from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi for allegedly cheating a Nayapalli businessman of Rs 2.13 crore. The accused, identified as Tarun Mehta, had taken the amount from businessman Digbijay in 2013 with the promise of starting an agro-based company in Haryana. However, he did not set up the firm nor returned the money. Subsequently, Digbijay lodged a complaint with the Nayapalli police station in August last year. The cops said the accused was detained at Delhi airport while he was trying to leave the country.
Death protest
Bargarh: Angry villagers of Melchhamunda in Bargarh district set the local police station on fire on Sunday and damaged a police vehicle inside the premises demanding arrest of the accused after the body of a missing four-year-old child was found on Saturday night. The toddler, was missing since February 4 from the area.
Writer dies
Bhubaneswar: Well-known administrator, writer and researcher on Odisha’s ancient culture Ashutosh Patnaik passed away at his Surya Nagar home on Sunday. He was 85. Patnaik left behind his educationist wife Basantalata Patnaik, entrepreneur son Debashish Patnaik and daughter-in-law, Odissi dancer Aruna Mohanty. His last rites were performed at his native place in Patrapada.
Assaulted
Nayagarh: A pregnant woman was allegedly attacked by some BJD supporters in Nayagarh district as she cast her vote in favour of another party. BJD supporters kicked the woman’s belly injuring her critically. She was admitted to Capital Hospital.
GPS in buses
Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Puri Transport Services Limited will get the Dream Team Sahara run city-buses GPS-enabled shortly. The initial phase of the project will be completed by May this year.
