Group clash

Cuttack: A clash between two groups from neighbouring areas sparked tension among local residents on Sunday. Police had a difficult time controlling the mob. According to sources, the trouble started when Taanal Sahi youths tried to stop a group from Hatua Sahi from playing cricket. The two groups got involved in a scuffle, which ended up sparking a fracas as both the groups continued to hurl stones till late in the night. One platoon of police was deployed in the area. The cops plan to call a meeting of local leaders to resolve the issue..   

Road accident

Balasore:  At least 21 persons were injured, two of them critically, when the bus they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck on the NH-60 at Mirigi Mundi Chhak within Rupsa police limits in Balasore on Monday. The truck driver was also among the injured. Police sources said the injured were admitted to Balasore district headquarters hospital.

Rally

Jajpur:  A rally of the Visthapan Virodhi Jan Manch at Kalinga Nagar in the district was held on Monday to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the police firing, in which 12 tribal people had lost their lives in 2006 during a protest against the Tata Steel plant. Observing the day as Martyr's Day, hundreds of tribal people started the rally from Champakoila after offering prayers to their deity.

Cuttack: Odisha Cricket Association secretary Ashirbad Behera on Monday made it clear that the sacking of Anurag Thakur, president of the Board of Control of Cricket in India, by the Supreme Court would have no effect on the One Day International between India and England scheduled to be played at the Barabati Stadium in the city on January 19.
