Bhubaneswar, Jan. 11: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged the Directorate of Medical Education and Training to cancel the licence of a private nursing home in the Buddha Nagar area for violating civic rules.

The nursing home is reportedly discharging effluents into public drains. In spite of repeated reminders, the nursing home has not taken corrective measures, said BMC officials. The city health officer has written a letter to the directorate to take action.

Councillor of ward no. 48 (Gautam Nagar and Buddha Nagar) Kishore Kumar Mohanty said: “The nursing home is discharging waste into the sewers. Residents living nearby have been complaining of the foul smell.”

Sangram Mahapatra, owner of the nursing home, denied the charges and said that the solid waste discharged from the nursing home are segregated and lifted by Sani Clean, a private agency authorised by the State Pollution Control Board.“Two scientists of the board had visited the nursing home and were happy with the arrangement,” he said.

Director of the Directorate of Medical Education P.K. Dash said: “We will inspect the premises (of the nursing home) soon.”
