Bhubaneswar, Aug. 24: Like every year, a slew of projects (this time worth Rs 402 crore) are lined up for launch on local self-government day on August 31.

The prominent ones will include foundation stone laying ceremonies for the multi-specialty hospital at Gadakana, renovated Unit-I daily market, multi-storeyed office building of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) at Unit-VIII and a modern slaughterhouse at Gadakana.

While the multi-specialty hospital will initially require around Rs 178 crore, the modernisation of Unit-I daily market will need Rs 105 crore. Similarly, while the phase I of the new BMC building will need Rs 40 crore, the slaughterhouse will be built at a cost of Rs 6.4 crore.

Foundation stones will also be laid for vending zones at Pandra, Gadakana and Unit II, community toilets at Patia, Omfed Square and near Amri Hospital and three shelters for urban homeless at Sailashree Vihar, behind Unit-II market and Jayadev Vatika.

The three major inaugurations would include a fruit market worth Rs 2 crore near Unit-II filling station, a park at Unit-IX near BSNL office and a community centre at Kapilaprasad. Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said: "There were several last minute changes regarding the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremonies, but it will certainly include the multi-specialty hospital, Unit-I market, BMC office and modern slaughter house at Gadakana this year."

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik and several of his ministers will do the honours of inaugurating the projects.
