
Baripada: Chhau artistes of Mayurbhanj took part in a contemporary fusion dance show, which was organised in Mumbai and Pune.
A group of 20 artistes, associated with Mayurbhanj Chhau Performing Unit (MCPU), performed at the National Centre for Performing Art (NCPA) in Mumbai under the direction of kathak exponent of Maharashtra Shama Bhate. The show on the indigenous folk dance of Mayurbhanj, chhau, with Kathak in fusion was staged at NCPA as part of Lok Gatha Utsav. The show was a 30-minute programme under the title Pratibimba. Pratibimba was subsequently staged in Savitribai Phule University, Pune University and Indian institute of Science Education and Research, Pune.
"The fusion dance was designed by Bhate under three different concepts. The programme had three parts - Urjja, Ekta Me Bal and Hanuman," said an administrative officer of MCPU Bibhudatta Das.
"The programme on the IISER campus was organised in coordination with the Spic Macay, a welfare organisation had promotes Indian classical music among youths. The event earned great appreciation from the audience," he said. The kathak part of the fusion dance was performed by a prominent artiste of Maharashtra, Ameera Patnakar.
