Jajpur: Korei police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly blackmailing a woman and asking for money.
The accused had allegedly morphed pictures of the woman and threatened to send those to her husband and post them on the Internet, if she failed to give him Rs 5 lakh, the police said.
The accused, identified as Kabir Nayak, a resident of Khajuriapada Nuasahi village in Cuttack's Baideswar police station limits, was nabbed from his residence. The police have seized his mobile phone used in the crime.
The police said that the 27-year-old married woman of Tarakote village in the district got a call from Nayak, who claimed to be Dr Sudarshan Panda of SCB Medical College and Hospital.
He befriended the woman and they exchanged their pictures, said Chinmayee Sahu, inspector-in-charge of Korei police station. The victim had approached the accused to get her a job. The accused allegedly asked the victim to send photographs and video footage of a prominent mark on her body to identify her. .
Nayak morphed the pictures and videos to blackmail the woman, who informed her husband about it and a complaint was filed with the local police on 18 June.
The police arrested Nayak man and sent him to jail.
