Bhubaneswar: The BJP's Odisha unit, which has been accused of supporting the Chhattisgarh government on the issue of Mahanadi water sharing dispute, on Friday pledged its support to Naveen Patnaik government's fight to protect the interests of the state.

BJP legislature party leader K.V. Singh Deo said: "We are always for the interests of the state. We will not compromise on the issue. But BJD should refrain from doing politics on the issue."

He also questioned the government's failure to construct a second barrage on the Mahanadi.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said: "Both the state and the Centre have played treachery with the government of Odisha. Attempts have been made not to implement the orders of the Supreme Court."

Mishra wanted to know why there has been so much delay in communicating the terms of reference of the tribunal to Odisha. Later a consensus was reached in the House that the sentiments of the Odisha Assembly should be communicated to the Centre.
