Bhubaneswar: The municipal corporation will shortly start a service to deliver birth and death certificates at your doorstep.
The civic body is considering a proposal to make the registration of birth and death entirely online following which certificates would be delivered to people at their home. The system is now partially online in which the applicant downloads the form and visits the civic body office to submit the forms and pay the fees. The applicant is then given a date to come and collect the certificate.
As part of the new plan, the civic body will make the entire process, including form submission and fee payment, completely online. After the officials scrutinise the application, the certificate will be generated for home delivery under the civic body's e-municipality module.
"We have asked the civic body officials to explore the option of either using courier or speed post service to dispatch birth or death certificates," said an official of urban development department.
In order to execute the plan smoothly, the civic body will take help of the chief registrar of birth and death at the health and family welfare department and also keep a track of registers available with the crematoriums for issuing the death certificates.
"The aim is to make the job easy for citizens and officials. The online mode will bring transparency. Through the home delivery service, we will be able to ensure that the certificates are delivered to right person at right address. We are making efforts to introduce the service shortly," said mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.
Sailashree Vihar resident Narayan Ojha said he hoped the new system would be in place at the earliest.
"I had to go the city health office twice to get the certificate done for my son. It is time consuming and I am sure it will save time and hassle."
