Bollywood bound

lDance duo Padmini Patnaik and Debashish Sahoo, who finished third in a popular dance reality show on national television, have got an offer to perform in ABCD-2, the sequel to choreographer Prabhu Deva’s film Any Body Can Dance (ABCD). However, nothing has been finalised yet as the two schoolchildren from Bhubaneswar want to catch up on studies for now.

Padmini, a Class VII student of Stewart School, and Debashish, a Class IX student of Saraswati Sishu Mandir (Sailashree Vihar), had auditioned in February for the show judged by Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh and choreographers Geeta Kapoor and Ashley Lobo.

Little achiever

lSeetal, a Class IV student of DAV Public School (Chandrasekharpur), Bhubaneswar, topped the national-level Smart Kid General Knowledge Olympiad organised by Silverzone, New Delhi. She is the first person from the state to have achieved the feat. She was felicitated in her school by headmistress Sanjita Sahu.

Last year, Seetal had secured highest marks in the national-level Science Talent Search Examination-2012, conducted by Unified Council, a scientific assessment organisation in Hyderabad, and had also bagged the National Child Award-2011 from the Union ministry of women and child development for exceptional achievement in the field of academics, art and culture.

Students of DAV Public School (Chandrasekharpur), Bhubaneswar, perform during the silver jubilee celebrations of the school. A host of programmes such as unveiling of the silver jubilee logo, a mini marathon led by film, sports and political personalities, release of the annual result analysis tabloid titled Epoch and school magazine Kusumayani were held as part of the celebrations from August 2 to 4. Innovative idea

lSchool and mass education secretary Usha Padhee felicitated a team of five students from Sai International School, Bhubaneswar, for winning the Design for Change (DFC) Challenge from Odisha this year. The school’s initiative, titled Reading Rainbow, transformed the storage space of a government school in Patia into a library. It was among the 20 best projects chosen from a pool of 700 stories of change from 24 states across India.

The five students in the core team were Vikram Aditya Sahoo, Vishal Aditya Sahoo, Ankit Sahoo, Karan Agarwal and Ashish Kumar Mishra. The felicitation ceremony was organised by the zonal partner of Design for Change at the Regional Science Centre on August 7.

School authorities said Disney World would set up a play centre on the campus and the Reading Rainbow story had been selected for publication in the I can book, 2013, by Amar Chitra Katha to be launched at the Be the Change Conference 2013 on September 28 at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

The DFC team of Sai International has been invited to the two-day conference.

Tribute to founder

lJindal School at Barbil celebrated the founder’s day of Jindal Steel and Power on August 7. The show started with students paying tribute to their founder Om Prakash Jindal and moved on to a cultural programme by the children. A theme dance depicting folk cultures, English play “Cinderella” and Hindi play “Andheri Nagari Choupaat Raja” were staged. Principal Samir Kanungo talked about the achievements of the school and the programme ended with singing of the national anthem.
