Bhubaneswar, Aug. 3: Students who have already taken admission in degree colleges, but hope to get a seat in a better college or stream can apply again.
Higher education officials took the decision yesterday in view of 17,000-odd seats in Plus Three lying vacant even after the balance seat or spot admissions. These students can find out the vacancy status in colleges of their preference from the department of higher education’s website (www.dheorissa.in). Accordingly, they will be required to directly register with the authorities of the college concerned by August 8, officials said.
“Students will not need to apply online, but get in touch with the colleges of their choice. The contact details of the colleges have been provided on the website,” said an official of the department.
The admission process has also been kept open for three categories of students — those who were not able to apply online during the stipulated period, those who could not get seats during the online admission and those who had been allotted a college but could not take admission because of personal reasons.
Official sources said of the 1.42lakh seats in the 662 degree colleges of the state, only 1.04 lakh had been filled up at the end of the first selection admission. “However, even after the spot selection process, over 17,000 seats have remained vacant so we decided to go ahead with another round of vacant seat admission,” said the official.
Besides, a student, who was initially admitted against a lower preference of college, but got a higher preference during the ST/SC extension seat admission or balance seat and spot admissions, would be able to take the transfer to the desired college without forfeiting the admission fee already deposited.
“Only an amount of Rs 100 has to be paid towards the processing fee. The balance amount will be refunded in cash directly to the applicant or guardian on the day of taking the college leaving certificate (CLC) or in the form of a bank draft or cheque. The college authorities concerned will issue the CLC online,” the official said.
