Bhubaneswar, Oct. 8: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will serve a notice to Surendra Naik alias Sura baba.
The authority will also serve notices to 38 others for illegal construction of houses and temples at Jhinti on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
Sources in the BDA said notices would be served to Sura baba and others who have constructed houses in Trahi Achyuta Nagar, a state-of-the- art township developed by the self-proclaimed spiritual leader.
Sura baba is currently lodged in jail, along with his two sons, on several charges including molestation and possession of firearms. Tension prevailed in the ashram on August 30 after a mob vandalised property besides setting ablaze around 20 vehicles.
Jhinti Sasan came under the purview of the BDA in 2011 and it was alleged that buildings were constructed in the ashram without prior approval of the BDA.
The township with more than 200 independent houses, mainly occupied by followers and devotees of the baba, has facilities such as bank, post office, shops and storerooms to supply essentials to 2,000 people for days together.
The government had also started the process of taking into its possession 82 decimals of government land encroached by Trahi Achyuta Ashram on which a post office, a charitable dispensary and a bank had been built.
The state government had earlier served notices to the Trahi Achyuta Ashram to vacate the land, which was illegally encroached.
