Barsa files alimony suit

Balasore, Sept. 27: Barsa Swony Chaudhary, the daughter-in-law of former minister Raghunath Mohanty, has filed a suit for maintenance in the family court here seeking a sum of Rs 60,000 per month from her husband Rajashree Mohanty.

Barsa has been living with her parents ever since she lodged a dowry torture complaint against the her husband Rajashree, father-in-law Raghunath Mohanty, mother-in-law Pritilata, sister-in-law Rupashree Madhual and Rupashree’s husband Suvendu Madhual on March 14.

Rajashree, Raghunath and Pritilata were subsequently arrested by the Human Rights Protection Cell of the state Crime Branch. All of them are now out on bail.

However, Rupashree and her husband Suvendu had obtained anticipatory bail .

“In her petition, the victim has sought a maintenance money of Rs 60,000 per month. Her husband had shown in his bail petition that his monthly income is more than 1.65 lakh,” said Amarballav Nanda, the petitioner’s advocate.

“My client is now pursuing MBA. She needs money for her studies as well as for her maintenance,” he said.

Barsa’s father K.K. Chaudhary alleged that she was physically assaulted by Rajashree and Pritilata.
