Bhubaneswar, Feb. 11: Schools, colleges and business establishments in Malkangiri remained closed today in response to a 12-hour bandh called by lawyers.

They were demanding action against two policemen for allegedly misbehaving with a senior advocate.

They demanded that a police case be registered against the officers who misbehaved with secretary of Malkangiri Bar Association Lambodar Turuk.

Yesterday, Turuk filed a complaint against the alleged misbehaviour and illegal detention by two policemen. The two officers also lodged complaints against Turuk, alleging that the lawyer had assaulted them.

In his complaint, Turuk said he was standing near a garage on the main road and talking to his friend as his motorcycle was being repaired.

A sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector asked him to show the documents of his vehicle, as his two-wheeler had no registration number.

“The officers detained me for about four hours in the police station,” said the advocate. He said they even used abusive language against him.

Inspector in charge of Malkangiri police station Aniruddha Rout said: “Turuk had no valid registration number and other documents of his motorbike which forced our men to detain him as they were carrying out a routine check on vehicles,” said Rout.
