Balangir boy tops ICSE

Bhubaneswar, May 6: Abineet Paricha of Balangir's Little Flower School scored 99.2 per cent to top the ICSE Class X exam, the result for which was announced today.

Around 6,848 students from 88 schools in Odisha were part of the total 1,68,591 candidates from 2,015 schools who appeared for the ICSE exams from within and outside the country. The state recorded a pass percentage of 98.22 overall. Girls fared better, recording a pass percentage of 98.45 against 92.90 recorded by boys.

Karan Agrawalla from St Paul's School, Rourkela scored 98.8 per cent, while Aarushi Kollana from Ruchika High School, Bhubaneswar and Somnath Jena from Nirmala Convent School, Keonjhar both came third with 98.2 per cent. The overall pass percentage for ICSE this year is 98.50, up by 0.01 per cent from last year, said Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations officials in New Delhi.

Around 358 candidates from the scheduled caste category appeared for the exam this year, recording a pass percentage of 98.04. Similarly, 586 candidates from the scheduled tribe category took the exam, achieving a pass percentage of 94.54 per cent. The 769 candidates from other backward classes category recorded a pass percentage of 98.57. All the nine ICSE schools in the capital have achieved 100 per cent results.

"ICSE schools in Odisha have been doing well lately and we congratulate all the candidates who have passed the exams," said St Paul's School, Rourkela, principal Father Joseph.

Among ICSE schools in India, the southern region has the best pass percentage with 99.68 followed by the western region (99.57 per cent), eastern region (98.30 per cent) and northern region (97.70 per cent).

Results for the Class XII examinations were also announced today. Around 1,502 students from 27 schools had appeared for the examination from Odisha. The state recorded an overall pass percentage of 92.34. Reversing the trend from the ICSE, the boys fared better in the ISC exam with a pass percentage of 92.9, while the score for the girls is 91.85 per cent. Ipsita Tripathy of Ispat English Medium School, Rourkela scored 98 per cent to top the state charts, while Surbhrajeet Panda from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Rourkela scored 97.75 per cent. Surya Narayan Acharya came third with 97.50 per cent.

The overall pass percentage for ISC is 96.46, up by 0.18 percent from last year. The southern region fared better in terms of pass percentage with 99.14, followed by the western region (97.59 per cent), northern region (96.36 per cent) and the Eastern region (95.90 per cent).

"We have declared this year's results two weeks earlier than previous years," said chief executive & secretary Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, Gerry Arathoon.

"While the ISC examination mark sheets and pass certificates will reach the schools latest by May 10, the ICSE mark sheets and pass certificates will reach the schools latest by May 14," he said.
