Bhubaneswar: Kendrapara MP Baijayant 'Jay' Panda has not only fallen out of favour with BJD president and Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik, but he also seems to be getting increasingly isolated in his own Lok Sabha constituency.
Most political representatives from the area are staying away from his review meetings for the past one year.
Sources said meetings of the vigilance monitoring committee headed by Panda that monitors central projects in the district has not been attended by any MLA or block chairman, irrespective of the party affiliations.
The meeting is held twice a year. They have also shown an aversion to attend the meetings Panda holds to review projects taken up with his MPLAD funds that amounts to Rs 5 crore a year.
"Owing to his corporate style of functioning, Panda has lost the personal touch with the political representatives of his constituency. Instead of Panda, his officials have been calling up the political representatives, including MLAs, to attend the meetings and that has led to resentment," said an MLA whose constituency is a part of the Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency.
Congress MLA from Aul Debendra Sharma said: "I used to attend his meetings when the MP called us personally. This has changed and his officials began inviting us. Also, when we did attend the meetings, we were not allowed to talk. He behaved as if we had no importance. So, I started distancing myself from him."
