Bhubaneswar, Jan. 7: Actor Tanmay Mohanty alias Babusan, who had allegedly beaten up a youth in front of a star hotel in the Jayadev Vihar area, today secured bail from the city police.

The Nayapalli police had registered a case against the actor following a complaint by Ankit Das, 19, who is pursuing an acting course in Mumbai, had alleged that Babusan had beaten him up and had also taken away his costly mobile set on January 5.

The actor, whose phone was switched off yesterday, told The Telegraph over phone today that the youth had passed vulgar remarks on him and there was an altercation between him and Ankit. He, however, denied the allegation of taking away Ankit’s mobile phone.

Babusan claimed that during the heated exchange, Ankit may have dropped his mobile phone. The hotel security staff, however, later found the mobile and handed it over to Ankit. “The matter has been settled after Ankit agreed for a compromise,” said the actor whose next film ‘Loafer’ is scheduled to be released on January 14.

On January 5, Ankit Das had complained to the Nayapalli police that while he was talking to his friend over phone in front of the hotel, Babusan and his friends had beaten him up and had stolen his mobile phone. The youth, who resides in the Sailashree Vihar area of the capital, had sustained injuries in his nose. Later his friend took him to the police station, from where he was taken to the hospital.

The police had registered a case against Babusan under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 379 (theft) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Police, however, said that the youth wanted the case to be dismissed.
