Bhubaneswar, Nov. 15: Police today arrested Saila Ranasingh, 43, who had led a mob that assaulted officials of Lakshmisagar police station at Haladi Padia slum on June 8, in another case.
Ranasingh, along with 10 other villagers, were today held after they allegedly attacked a family in the slum over past enmity. The police said Ranasingh's supporters orchestrated today's attack as they were losing ground after she was arrested following the cop-assault incident. The 43-year-old woman was released a few days ago.

"We are keeping a strict vigil on the slum to avoid any untoward incident," said inspector in charge of Lakshmisagar police station Rajat Kumar Ray.
The police said that at least four persons suffered injuries in the pitched battle that ensued between the supporters of Ranasingh and those of her rival group in the slum. Later, the injured were sent to Capital Hospital for preliminary treatment.
"Today, they barged into our house and started thrashing my brother though we had no enmity with anybody. Despite all pleas, they kept on assaulting him," said Barsharani, sister of one of the injured.
On June 8, police personnel, including the Lakshmisagar police station inspector in charge and sub-inspector Ashok Hansdah, were assaulted by a mob in the slum when the cops went there to rescue a youth, who had been detained by the slum dwellers for having eloped with a girl of the area.
The slum dwellers had kept Santosh Jena, the 25-year-old married man, who had allegedly eloped with one of his distant relatives, hostage. When the police reached the slum, the 30-strong mob, mostly women wielding sticks and bricks, attacked them. Consequently, the police personnel were forced to return from the spot. The attack was so severe that the sub-inspector had fallen in the nearby drain.
It is alleged that Ranasingh, who was running a Kangaroo court in the slum, had orchestrated the attack on the police after it interfered in the matter. According to the police, 10 cases were pending against Ranasingh, while five and four cases were pending against Pinky and Tutu, respectively.
Earlier, Ranasingh was arrested along with her daughter Puja, 23, her son Jitu alias Tutu, 25, and her son-in-law Karana Pujapanda, 30, from Soro in Balasore after they absconded following the police assault incident. They were staying at a rented accommodation at Soro identifying themselves as members of a melody troupe working in a jatra (folk theatre group).
