Cuttack: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Tuesday told Orissa High Court that at least 13 minor shrines on the Jagannath temple premises in Puri "require immediate attention".

On April 24, the high court directed the ASI to inspect the periphery temples by its officials and engineers and submit a report on the ones that required attention.

The ASI was expected to submit the report on minor shrines along with the progress of the work on the Jaya Bijaya Dwar on May 15.

In his affidavit ASI (Bhubaneswar circle) superintending archaeologist H.A. Naik said "the periphery temples have been inspected and three groups of temples have been identified which require immediate attention".

Naik submitted a list of 13 temples "in order of priority for attending essential conservation work depending upon their structural conditions".

"Taking note of the affidavit, the division bench of Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice B.R. Sarangi posted the matter to July 5," central government counsel Chandrakanta Pradhan said.
