Bhubaneswar, Sept. 10: Artists have aptly captured social issues and human nature in their creations that have been displayed at Suvadra Art Gallery.
The event is a collaborative effort of the gallery and an international art organisation, Disc (Discover Innovate Share Create) The Art.
While one painting captures the life of urban and rural India in watercolour and acrylic, other creations show children gathered at a train window for alms, village women busy in their daily chores, farmers immersed in their bone-breaking work and many such realistic moments from everyday life.
The list of artists whose works have been displayed include Priyoum Talukdar from Assam, Satya Ranjan Rout, Jagatjeet Dash and Goutam Sahoo from Odisha, Jayanta Bhattacharya from Tripura, Anderi Fomiriakov from Russia and Jacqueline Briggs from Scotland. Both Fomiriakov and Briggs have presented a series of works that include abstract art. They have also focussed on the unusual side of human beings.
"This exhibition is a part of the first phase of Disc The Art summer residency. The artists will travel to rural Odisha. The programme contains three stages - journey, base camp and exhibition - in Bhubaneswar," said Disc co-ordinator Ausra Kleizaite.
Kleizaite said: " In the upcoming residency, the artists would have an opportunity to discover the state's crafts and also the ancient arts. They will also get to know about the culture and the lifestyle of the people here."
