Bhubaneswar, April 29: It could be anybody's dream, but very few have the heart to take the giant leap.
After completing his education, Subrata Khuntia joined the banking sector like many of his friends. But, he always dreamt of starting his own venture.
Finally, after being in the industry for 11 years, he answered his inner call and the result was Wizy Services, a mobile app that provides day-to-day assistance to people.
Khuntia quit his job in June last year and started working on the app.
"I realised that I was wasting my time in the job. It didn't make me happy as I understood that I was not doing anything fruitful. I always wanted to get into the service industry. I was aware of the challenges, but I wanted to take the risk," he said.
The application that is available on android platforms facilitates around 60 services, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical arrangements, computer repair facilities and pest control. These apart, users can also book an appointment for car wash, laundry services and also hire caretakers, tutors and dance and music teachers.
Government policy-related advice and legal assistance can also be sought via the app. It has a few agents who act as facilitators. One can also enquire about services, such as event management and financial consultancy.
The 35-year-old entrepreneur said his aim was to bring about a change in the service industry. "I have seen a number of elderly people residing alone these days. Bhubaneswar is home to a large number of youngsters who have come from other parts of the country. The app will be helpful for them," said Khuntia.
"We have appointed only verified, experienced and skilled professionals to cater to the service needs. Our motive is to make the lives of customers hassle free and easy," said Khuntia.
He started his operations from Bhubaneswar and Mumbai in February this year. The app already has more than 400 customers in the capital city with more than 200 service providers.
"I met a number of experts in the field such as app developers, financiers and people who have already established themselves in the service industry. From September, I started building my team and got in touch with professionals in various sectors," he said.
He admits to have learnt a lot in the process of becoming an entrepreneur. "I learnt how to raise money for a cause and how to deal with people. There would be many who would give you false assurances and many would discourage your idea. But, all these helped me to become a fighter," he said.
To ensure safety, the team takes regular feedbacks from the users and also made personal visits and checked background of the service providers.
"At present, we are focusing on app-based booking because it will make sure that only the services that are available in that area are shown in the list," said Khuntia.
"We are shortly starting our operations in Guwahati and Pune. By the end of this year, I plan to reach out to 10 cities of the country," he said.
An user of the app, Pappu Das, said: "The range of services are huge and they are also prompt."
