Akshaya biopic in works

Production house in talks with singer-composer's family

Bhubaneswar, July 22: The enigmatic persona of legendary music composer Akshaya Mohanty is set to be immortalised on the silver screen.

Mustaque Nadiadawala from the Nadiadawala Grandson Entertainment, a production houses based in Mumbai, is locked in talks with members of the Akshaya Mohanty Trust to produce a film based on the musical journey of the maestro. Mohanty is revered throughout the state for his contibutions to bhajans, folk songs, film and non-film modern songs.

The production house associated with super hit Bollywood movies such as the Housefull series, 2 States, Phantom and Rangoon will release the film He Phaguna Tume.

Nadiadawala called on Mohanty's family at his residence, Bichitrabarna in Cuttack, to express his gratitude towards the singer for his "unparalleled contribution to the world of music".

Jubilee Sundaray, director of the proposed film, was also present at the meeting alongside technical and creative directors Pradip Dash and Sibasis Satpathy, respectively.

He Phaguna Tume, the working title for the proposed film, is a large canvas that paints the musical journey and an apocryphal of Akshaya Mohanty, from a lover to a legend and from a musician to a maestro.

Nikunja K. Sundaray has penned the screenplay while the dialogues have been written by Devdas Chhotray.

"Some vital elements related to the script that captures some of the overwhelming events of Mohanty's life have already been completed," said Nadiadwala.

"The script is based on the life, events and dreams of Mohanty, that he himself depicted and, thus, the film is the making of an unfulfilled dream," the producer said.

"The uniqueness of the film is that all the eight songs have been written and composed by Mohanty himself. The binding script has already been registered under the Indian Copyright Act," said Nadiadwala.

The film is expected to go on floor this year. However, the producer and director are still to zoom in on the actor, who will play the lead role in the film.
