Aircraft part hits residence

Balasore, Dec. 6: An unidentified object fell from the sky into Raibania area bordering Bengal yesterday, partly damaging a house and causing panic among residents.

An Air Force personnel said: “The object was a target banner that got dislodged inadvertently from an aircraft when it was flying.”

Local residents said a portion of the object fell on the asbestos roof of the house of Bhutia Behera at Majhi Sahi while another portion fell in an open field about 1km away. The residents then informed the police about the object.

Following the incident, a team of defence personnel from Kalaikunda, a flying base in Bengal, made a spot inspection. Raibania police collected the portions of the object.

Behera has lodged a complaint demanding compensation from the Air Force for the damages caused to his house by the object.
