Bhubaneswar, Aug. 22: Amazing 7D Rider, the first 7D theatre here, has come as a respite for those who crib that the city does not offer enough hang-out options during weekends.

The theatre, which completed 100 days recently, is running houseful shows on weekends and other holidays.

Though it initially charged Rs 140 for one show and Rs 200 for a combo pack of two shows with the duration of each ranging between five and 15 minutes, the theatre is now offering an exhilarating experience of 30-35 minutes for Rs 200. The dip in the price comes after the owners realised that the earlier prices seemed exorbitant to many.

The 16-seater theatre that used to run two shows — Rescue and Roller Coaster — at the time of its inception, has added more films such as Pathfinder based on bike rides and Haunted Graves themed on ghosts.

Families, corporate employees, college students and even Odia film industry stars are the loyal visitors at the theatre where the pneumatically operated seats give viewers a ride to remember. Intrigued by the concept, people from places such as Puri, Konark, Cuttack, Nayagarh and Dhenkanal also drop in while passing through Bhubaneswar.

Located just opposite a swanky mall at Saheed Nagar which houses the city’s only multiplex, 7D theatre easily attracts the attention of visitors.

“As far as the earnings from the shows are concerned, the calculations are simple. In our 16-seater hall, eight is the break even. More than eight results in return of investment, while we incur losses when it is less,” said director of Amazing 7D Rider Cinema Suren Mahapatra.“Though we have nothing to do with the multiplex, but the response to a film running there affects our business as well. Most people see a 5pm show at our place before catching their 6pm show at the multiplex,” he added.
