Advice to RBI

Bhubaneswar: Development commissioner R. Balakrishnan, in a meeting on Thursday, advised officers of the Reserve Bank of India to supply more currency to district central co-operative banks. It was decided that the central bank would supply currency notes worth around Rs 65 to 70 crore to the co-operative banks on a daily basis to meet the requirements of farmers with regard to crop loans, paddy procurement proceeds and crop insurance claims.  

Probe 

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission on Thursday took suo moto action and sent notices to the chief district medical officer, district collector and health secretary. The commission's move comes after a woman died at the district headquarters hospital in Keonjhar on Wednesday because of the infusion of blood of the wrong group. The commission ordered the collector to submit a report within four weeks.

State demand

Bhubaneswar: Home secretary Asit Tripathy on Thursday said the state government had sought two additional battalions of central forces to fight Maoists from the Centre. He said they also demanded construction of 518 new mobile towers, more banks and ATMs.

Ravenshaw 

Bhubaneswar: The Ravenshaw University has lost National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grade, said higher education minister Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi. The team had visited the varsity on December 5 for assessment. It had got ‘A’ grade in 2004.

Bombs hurled

Kendrapara: Six goons hurled country bombs at two places near Paradip-Daitary expressway and injured a pedestrian at Marshaghai, police said.
