Bhubaneswar, May 26: Admissions for around 3,34,152 seats in 1,404 junior colleges across the state began even as confusion gripped students who had applied for rechecking of their matriculation marks.

Students who had applied for rechecking of their papers and revaluation of their marks are yet to get their results. They appeared to be confused over how to fill in the forms. About 5,000 students had applied for rechecking of their matriculation marks, said an official of the Board of Secondary Education.

“I am confused whether I should submit my form now or should wait for the revised marks. What if they don’t upload my revised marks by June 9, the last date for applying online. I am also not sure if the revised marks will be better than my previous marks. I am totally confused,” said Aman, a student.

Another student Sitanshusaid: “I want to wait for two more days before filing the application form, but my parents are insisting to do it now. I want to file with my revised marks.”

Clarifying the procedure, Mihir Das, officer in-charge of Plus Two admissions, said that students could now apply with their existing marks and can later update it using the “edit” option.

“The students can use their login ID and edit their forms later on. They can update their marks using the option,” Das said.

The official also said that it had contacted the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) about the progress in rechecking.

“It was only after they confirmed that the rechecking was going on in full swing and will be completed soon that we announced the dates,” said Das. The senior official advised students to go through the cut-off list of previous year to get an idea of which colleges they can apply. “During previous years the colleges would not reveal their cut-off, thus keeping students guessing if they would get a seat in a particular college. But things have been made transparent now. The cut-off list has been made available on the department’s website and students must make optimum use of it,” Das said.

Applications today were submitted in both online and offline mode for admission into arts, science and commerce streams. While the last date for online admission is June 9 (till 12 midnight), for offline admission, the last date is June 10.

The admission process will cover five stages — first selection, second selection, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes extension selection, spot selection for balance seats and supplementary admission

The first phase merit list would be announced on June 18 and the enrolment will begin from June 24 and continue till June 27. Classes will begin from July 17.
