Action report sought

Malkangiri: Odisha Human Rights Commission has asked the district collector and police superintendent to furnish an action-taken report on the alleged killing of a tribal man by suspected Maoists.

The suspected rebels had allegedly abducted six men from Katalanga village in Kalahandi district and later killed one of them on the suspicion of being a police informer on December 26, 2016.

Since then, the five other kidnapped people have been missing, Sangita Swain alleged in petition lodged with the rights panel. The local police are sitting over the matter and have shied away from initiating measures to ameliorate the plight of the deceased and missing persons' families, the petition said and sought Rs 20 lakh and Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to the deceased and the missing persons' families.
