Bhubaneswar, Jan. 20: Teachers under the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), who do not turn up for evaluation work, may be stripped off their registration. The BPUT who have constantly been dogged by allegations of not publishing results on time has put the blame on erring teachers who do not turn up for evaluation work. This, in turn, delayed the entire procedure.
“We have done everything, starting from requesting the management to issuing notices. We have in the past even threatened to withhold results of the colleges that fail to send their faculties for evaluation but nothing has worked,” said BPUT vice-chancellor J.K. Satpathy. “The delay can be stopped if the teachers turn up on time,” he added.
“Over one lakh scripts are supposed to be evaluated after each exam. Since universities do not have adequate teachers, it requires the resources of private colleges,” said another senior varsity official.
Acting tough in this regard, the industries department has instructed the varsity to cancel the registrations of teachers who ignore the instructions for evaluation work. “Teachers who do not turn up for evaluation will have their registrations cancelled,” industries secretary, T Ramachandru, said.
“Results are delayed by more than three months. Compare our dates with either the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology University or the Siksha o Anusandhan University it’s never in time. Many a time we have to compromise with our career and lose out on important placements.
We do not know what technical problems they have been facing but this crisis has to be resolved at the earliest,” said Paritosh Sahu, an Mtech student.
As per the procedure, after the semester exams, the university requests colleges to depute teachers with minimum two-years teaching experience under BPUT to reach the assigned centres on a specified date and time for evaluation. However, the teachers generally do not turn up.
As colleges are already short staffed, authorities are reluctant to spare their teachers for the evaluation process as teachers are caught up in important classes, seminars and workshops.
