Kendrapara: An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 20-year-old youth living in her neighbourhood within Aul police limits of the district.

The case was reported at the police station on Thursday. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Abhijit Biswal, who has confessed to the crime.

Biswal allegedly raped the victim on Thursday when a community feast was being organised in her house. Taking advantage of the din and bustle, the accused called the girl to a deserted room in the backyard of her house on the pretext of playing games on his smart phone. Little knowing his amorous intent, the girl fell for the ploy.

She was traumatised following the physical abuse and narrated it to her parents a day after the incident.

In another incident, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly molested at Brahmanasahi village in Rajnagar police limits of the district.

The accused, Ratnakar Nayak, 35, allegedly molested her on June 14.

Though Nayak's family was allegedly trying to cover up the offence by reaching out for a compromise with the woman, she refused to budge and registered a complaint, leading to Nayak's arrest under Section 354 of the IPC.
