Bhubaneswar, Aug. 28: All the 50 seats at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, have been filled up during the second counselling that concluded today.
A combined counselling session against the vacant MBBS seats at six new AIIMS was held in Delhi. Earlier, after the first counselling session, which ended on August 10, the institute was left with 30 vacant seats. “All the seats have been filled up. Students have got their documents verified, deposited their fees and taken admission,” said director of the institute A.K. Mahapatra.
The admitted candidates are required to join the institute by September 10. However, students, who have already taken admission at any of the six new AIIMS and not been allotted the institute of their preference, also took part in the counselling session to get an institute location of their preference.
“Therefore, we will have to see whether all of them report at the institute by September 10,” said the official.
The AIIMS authorities will decide when to start classes at a joint meeting
“The dates will be decided after a combined meeting of all the AIIMS, which will be held next week. But we will abide by the Supreme Court’s rule and start classes before September 30,” said Mahapatra, adding that sufficient time would be allowed to students so that they could make arrangements to reach the institutes on the scheduled date.
Construction on the Sijua campus is on in full swing. “The construction is likely to be completed in a week’s time. The furniture and other items for the classes will be brought from Delhi. As of now, we are trying to put everything in place before classes start,” said the director.
It has been decided that students would be provided accommodation on the upcoming campus.
“Although the hostels are not complete, students will be placed in the completed residential quarters. There is enough space for 50 students,” a senior official said.
The authorities had earlier decided to place the students at private houses near the upcoming institute. Also, the 24 teaching faculty members have joined their respective departments of anatomy, community medicine and family medicine, biochemistry and physiology.
