Baripada: A 42 year old man killed his 10 year old daughter following a quarrel with his spouse.
The murder took place at Gobardhansole village in Baripada Sadar police station limits of Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday night.
The accused, Sania Deuri, has been arrested, said sub-divisional police officer Abhimanyu Nayak, adding that the murder weapons - a sickle and a chain - had been seized.
"The body was seized and the accused was apprehended on Thursday morning after breaking open the door of the room in which he had locked himself in," said Nayak.
"Although we attempted to enter the room last night, we desisted because he threatened us with bow and arrow. He had chained the victim before slitting her throat with a sickle. The weapons of offences have been seized and the accused is in custody," said Nayak, adding that the man was booked under section 302 and 506 of the IPC.
Police said after dinner on Wednesday night, Sania had a verbal fight with his wife Purnima over some trivial domestic issue.
Following the heated argument, Sania locked Purnima and their three children in a room.
Later, his wife could take out her two daughters from the locked room but the youngest daughter could not be saved.
In an inebriated state, Sania chained her up and slit her throat around 11.30pm.
After hearing the girl's screams and that of her mother, the neighbours informed the police.
But she was dead by the time the cops reached, the police officer said.
